Ep.8 My Experience in the COASTSWEEP Cleanup at Mystic River ~ Boston
Fight Trash for a Healthy Ocean
COASTSWEEP is part of the International Coastal Cleanup organized by Ocean Conservancy in Washington, DC. Volunteers from all over the world collect marine debris and record the types of trash they collect.
I like to be part of volunteerism and raise awareness in communities to help create a better planet. On October 5th, I joined the Somerville Conservation Commission and the Mystic River Watershed Association, which together organized the Coast Sweep in Park Draw 7 on the Mystic River in Somerville, a city near Boston.

I had the opportunity to record this episode with Michelle Liebetreu, Development and Communications Director at Mystic River Watershed Association, and Cristina Kennedy, volunteer at Somerville Conservation Commission.
I was lucky enough to learn more about it, work with other volunteers, and return home inspired.

Note: CoastSweep has been happening in Massachusetts since 1987, and this is the second year that Draw Seven Park has participated in the cleanup effort. The trash collection data will be compiled and submitted as part of the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup.
